When Tom Delavan, creative director of home at Gilt.com, asked us to curate a Remodelista Picks sale of essential everyday objects, we said yes, of course. First, though, we subjected the dashing Delavan (he's a former editor at large for Domino and a current contributor to T Magazine) to a few questions:
RM: If you had to grab three favorite objects from your house, what would they be?
TD: Only three? It would have to be a little box that John Derian made for my birthday 20 years ago, a handmade vase by Hugo Guinness, and my Macbook Air (now I'm being practical).
RM: Where are you spending Thanksgiving?
TD: We do a family meal, but not at home. This year we're going to the Carlyle. I love that dining room designed by Thierry Despont.
RM: What was thee inspiration for your new collection for Gilt Home?
TD: I took some of my favorite vintage finds, from sources ranging from eBay to Wyeth, and used them as inspiration for some of the furniture. The Alex sofa is my favorite. I'm also happy about our new bedding; it's in beautiful rich colors that'll never get old or outmoded.
RM: Okay, we have to ask, have you had a chance to page through our new book?
TD: Obsessed with it. I pretty much have it committed to memory. I think Julianne Moore's kitchen is perfection—Oliver Freundlich is very talented.
Remodelista Picks: Design Essentials is live at noon today through noon on Monday, November 25, at Gilt.com and offers discounts on some of our favorite designs—plus autographed copies of our book at a great price. Here's a sampling from the sale—to see the full range, go to Gilt Remodelista Picks.
